………………………………………………………………………………………….……...
The Czech Council on Foreign Relations invites entries into an international art contest under the keynote “European Identity”. The project is open for art academy students whose artifacts - posters - might help them engage in a broadly based dialogue on a single Europe, its cultural and social values, and its future.
Students should react, through their artwork, to questions the citizens of Europe are asking as debate evolves on the direction of forms of European integration. Is there a shared European identity, or are there merely national or regional feelings of a sense of belonging together? What is the relationship between shared and national identities? How could European identity emanate from the understanding of national identities as creative elements of the unity in diversity, which is so amply characteristic of Europe's history? Do we want the European Union to be only a common market or do we want it to be an integral political entity adorned with a measure of international sovereignty that would give us a firmer foothold in the global competition?
